Conferences History

IPPC1: The 1st International Public Procurement Conference, initiated and chaired by Khi V. Thai, was held in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA, October 21-23, 2004. It was sponsored by Florida Atlantic University Public Procurement Research Center, the National Institute of Governmental Purchasing, Inc, US General Services Administration, Curtin University of Technology (Australia), the World Bank, and the United Nations Development Programme/Inter-Agency Procurement Services Office. There were 120 participants from 24 countries and major international organizations such as the World bank, the International Monetary Fund, the United Nations Development Programme/ Inter-Agency Procurement Services Office.

IPPC2: The 2nd International Public Procurement Conference, co-chaired by Professor Gustavo Piga of the University of Rome “Tor Vergata” and Khi V. Thai of Florida Atlantic University, was held September 21-23, 2006 in Rome, Italy. It was sponsored by Alcatel Alenia Space, Consip (Italy), Curtin University of Technology (Australia), Florida Atlantic University Public Procurement Research Center, the University of Rome “Tor Vergata,” Ministero dell the National Institute of Governmental Purchasing, Inc, Public Works and Government Services (Canada). There were 295 participants from 45 countries and major international organizations such as the World bank, the International Monetary Fund, the United Nations Development Programme/ Inter-Agency Procurement Services Office.

IPPC3: The 3rd International Public Procurement Conference, chaired by Professor Jan Telgen of the University of Twente (Holland), was held in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, August 28-30, 2008. There were 273 participants from 43 countries and major international organizations such as the World Bank, the United Nations Development Programme/ Inter-Agency Procurement Services Office, and Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development. Since its inception, conference chairs asked participants to volunteer to host the forthcoming conference at the closing session. Each volunteer presented his/her offer or bid. Then, the host was selected via a transparent but simple majority voting process. At the 3rd IPPC, there were two very serious volunteers and several others who expressed some interest in hosting the forthcoming conferences. After consulting with Professor Khi V. Thai, the IPPC founder, Professor Jan Telgen, Chair of the 3rd IPPC, proposed a long-term plan for the forthcoming conferences by selecting hosts for the next two conferences. Two serious volunteers representing South Korea and USA were voted in the following order: 1. Korean Public Procurement Service will host the 4th IPPC in Seoul, Korea, in 2010. 2. Florida Atlantic University will host the 5th IPPC in 2012.

IPPC4: The 4th International Public Procurement Conference, hosted by the Korean Public Procurement Service, will be held in Seoul, South Korea, August 26-28, 2010. A Call for Paper Proposals has been announced: Proposal submission deadline: August 31, 2009; and full paper submission deadline: March 1, 2010.
